Yesterday we discussed how to write a reference for someone who applies for a job.
We already struggled with the headline.
When do you use "Dear Sir or Madam," and when "To Whom It May Concern"?
My English book says there is no difference.
Thanks in advance for your comments!
what a joke.
The only ones blocking a BINDING contract are USA and CHINA.
Thanks so much, Obama. Thank you Hu Jintao.
And btw. your CNN news about the Climate Change Conference are an example of making nothing look like the best thing ever.

Are we in China yet?
I am so pissed off by this.
"...What is it about vampires that makes them interesting? Is it even about the vampires? Do you think vampires have become less of a "feared monster" and more appealing?..."
For me, the most fascinating thing with vampires is the time-factor. They don't change, don't get old and they "live" to see the future.
There is so much to see, to learn, to experience and time goes by so quickly with the mundane everyday routines of work and household and stress and fights and money and shopping and gossip. I wish life would be infinite. I just need more time to experience life, you know?
I saw the following sentence tattooed on a guys chest once and from deep within my heart/soul I agreed: Life is a cry for immortalitly.
(I have never seen or heard that before or again - so if this is some well-known pop culture reference...shrugs)
Forgive my melancholy mood, friendlist.
I've been absent for a long time. I wouldn't say I'm back but I'm checking in on the net more regularly.
We finally moved in our house in September. I'm delighted - everything got even better than we expected. There is sooo much room and there is still so much to do - cleaning and decorating and such. Outside the first tips of grass show themselves and we might be lucky to get some more green before it's entirely too cold outside.
Mona and Lisa, my cats, love the house, especially running up and down the two flights of stairs.
My camera ate the pictures of the last month. I lost every foto of the move, the garden work and of the inside. I try to take some new ones soon.
Work is stress - a colleague fell ill and I got her work added to mine. She's already gone 3 months. I hope she'll be back soon. I don't know how long I can take so much work - and especially doing it for TWO bosses. They started fighting about my time a couple of weeks ago.
I'm burning to write again but time's the issue here.
I hope you all are alright.

You're a bit moody, and sometimes you have trouble coping with every day life.
But you're by no means depressed, and your good days definitely out number your bad days.
There's nothing really wrong with your life, but you may not be living up to your actual potential.
Negative emotions can be a real drain of your energy, so make sure you have them under control.
Thanks everybody for the birthday wishes!
The party the evening before was rathter uneventful but funny. We played "Activity" for adults - it was very funny to draw boobs so the others could guess the "nipple piercing". Or to describe the word "dildo" or to pantomime a "tongue kiss". Obviously very silly but we laughed tears about my brother (6'5" and clumsy) performing a "Playboy Bunny".
The come-together with my parents and grandparents yesterday was civilized but ended rather abruptly with my mom running out the door because I dared to make an appointment for both of us at a dermatologist. I don't really need an appointment but I thought it might make her feel better to not have to go alone. She has been having a really, really bad skin issue all over her face for more than a couple of years and she does not want to go see a doctor, any doctor really, at all. I tried breaching the subjects lots of times, as have the rest of the family but she becomes rude to agressive when directly approached.
Last birthday of my grandpa, he accused me of leaving my mom behind and not caring for her enough. That's really not the case but... well, you, reader of my neverending mom-issue-rants, know that. Anyway, I put the appointment down. She said: "I'm not going there." stood up and left. All other people - afraid of my mom - stood up and left, too. I was just glad that they were gone again and that I didn't have to deal with the fallout. I'm sure it'll come sooner or later anyway. How dare I make an appointment for her!
At least I can use the only thing I have "I will not talk to you or visit you before you see a doctor." against my mom. Let's see how she deals with that - I can live without her since she's always making me feel bad. We'll see how much she really cares and if her fear to go see a doctor is bigger than her need to see her daughter.
So, over here in Germany our TV channels are full of "America Votes" shows. We're watching too and we're very excited and waiting for the result.
Everybody who hasn't yet (and is allowed to): GO VOTE!
I'm all for a change. Germany voted the first female chancellor (our term for the head of the country) in 2005 which was a SENSATION. I believe you can do it, too.
QUESTION: In our TV they show lines and lines of people waiting in front of voting offices. Why is that? Shouldn't there be more of those voting offices now if there are so many people waiting? I have never waited to give up my vote here. No, I believe if we had to wait to vote - nobody would go there. Too much effort. We have at least one voting office in every district of town with lots of polling boothes. And what is when it's closing time and there are still people waiting? Are they still allowed to vote? Or will the door be closed in their faces? And why do you vote on a normal week day? We always have the voting day on a Sunday so everybody has a chance to go vote. Please enlighten me. Thank you!
AND THEY TRANSLATED THE IMPALA AS A "HE"
Soundtrack: AC/DC "Back In Black"
The Metallicar zooms up a 2-lane, driven by Dean. He is in a good mood, grooving along to his music. Several gratuitous shots of the shiny new car.
Whoo! Listen to HIM purr! Have you ever heard anything so sweet?
You know, if you want to get a room with HIM, just let me know, Dean.
Oh, don't listen to him, baby. He doesn't understand us.
Okay, side info: car would translate to "der Wagen" which is male. You could also use "das Auto" oder "das Fahrzeug", both a neuter and don't fit with the content. Motorbikes are female, btw, "die Maschine" or "das Motorrad" which would be neuter, again. Funny.
