Hi!
The following 8 questions were asked by
1. What phrase have you come across in a story that annoys you the most?
"I told you to not call me that!"
"Xander!" "Spike!" to indicate successful orgasming
"cold and/or dead" seed
"penis" We're at the doctors' or what?
2. Will you read a story if the pairing isn't your usual fayre?
Yep, especially if the pairing is exotic and the summary sounds interessting.
One of my fave boys (Spike, Xander, Angel) has to be in it though.
3. Would you persevere in reading a story even if the first chapter isn't that riveting/good but the summary makes it out to be an interesting plot? (in other words how much of a chance do you give a story before giving up)
It depends. If the chap is grammatically correct and has no spelling errors, if the style doesn't make me cringe or laugh (when I shouldn't) - I keep on reading.
After a while you can tell a good fic from a bad!fic from a good bad!fic after the first few lines.
4. How many WIP's are you reading and/or writing currently?
reading? - a looooooot
writing?
well, two real posted Wips, 2 fics I started to write a sequel to, 3 more WiPs I haven't posted yet ah well and then there are about 2 more in my head and several first chapters lie around handwritten.
5. Do you think beta readers are essential and how many do you yourself use?
Yes, beta readers are very important to every writer. It's hard to find a good one though who you like and trust with your fics, someone who likes the style you write in but tells you the truth about it, someone who really concentrates on beta'ing and really gives thought to what you have written and what you want to express.
Especially non-natives should use beta's as there are things you just can't know regardless how much English lessons you had and how many holidays you had in English speaking countries.
I am a non-native - I don't, I just can't hide that fact, I hope people excuse my mistakes, accept my style as English with accent as far as that goes. *laughs*
I've got two beta's right now, a native English and a non-native one.
6. What fic is your fav to read/write? i.e. long, short, series etc.
I can't say that I hate drabbles but they don't give me anything. I need a fat fic, something I can lose myself in and read for days. I love to really get into the fic, hate to stop reading to catch sleep but then start reading again and it feels like visiting old friends. Well, I hope you get what I mean. It's not easy to describe without sounding kinda barmy.
I haven't written a fic under 3.000 words, It's not that much but it's enough to smoke a cigarette while reading and relax for a while. My longest WiP counts more than 35.000 words and we are barely in the middle as I have it in my head. Well, I just have to get it written.
7. Do you aspire to become a published writer or do you write mainly for pleasure?
I gave up the dream of becoming a published writer.
I love to write, I always wrote, I get sick when I can't write once in a while coz it's my way to deal with my feelings.
Generally I do it for fun, love to get comments and feedback/critizism from my readers.
But in the end I write for myself.
8. What is your story basis preference? (reading or writing) i.e. angst,smut,hurt/comfort,etc.
reading?
Hm, generally I like the darker stuff, angst and h/c is good. I really enjoy it when it starts out nasty and gets better - in which way ever that may be. Sometimes even death is better in the end, you know?
writing?
wherever my mood carries me. *shrugs*
I hope you liked my answers and if you want to know more - well, just ask. *smiles*
